Safe And Children's Council Uses Grant To Promote Safe And Healthy Family
Interaction
The G-L-W Children's Council was awarded $1,000 grant for a campaign to promote safe and healthy family interaction from the Nebraska Child abuse Prevention Partnership. "Fun to Play, Ready to Learn" books were purchased for parents as part of this grant. Parents of Calamus Kids Pre-school as well as all parents of 0-3 year olds will receive a free "Fun to Play, Ready to Learn" book. In addition, all licensed childcare providers will receive a book. The "Fun to Play, Ready to Learn" book takes the latest brain research to practical songs and activities for your child. It is a for-sale item available at Extension Offices across the state.
Humor Helps
Every day, things happen at work and at home that are beyond our control. If you are feeling angry, frustrated, and tense, it is important to find ways to cope. Children are very sensitive to moods, words, and actions, so lighten the situation. Tell stories, jokes, read, listen to music or watch a family movie together. Make each other laugh you'll learn a lot about each other. You'll also show your kids how to keep your cool when things go wrong.
Talking Helps
Life can get very busy, even overwhelming sometimes. There are so many things to do, and very little time to do them. With all the responsibilities of work and family, it is easy to forget to enjoy the time you spend with your children. Many parents and children do not spend enough time just talking to one another. No matter what age your child is, talking help create a healthy habit of sharing life experiences as a family. Children actually do better in school and have more success as adults when their parents are actively involved in their lives.
Asking Helps
Kids don't come with their own instruction manual. Don't worry, you're not alone when you feel like you've run out of ideas or answers. Start by looking at parenting books, web sites, and articles. Find other parents that you feel comfortable talking to, and ask them for advice. Perhaps there is even a group of parents who get together on a regular basis. Whether you are helping your child potty train or learn to drive, it's OK to have questions, and it's good parenting to ask for help when you need it.
